We have the Atlantic Navigator in Tenerife and Canaries for a few years period and will be sailing short trips in the archipelago.
We are still planing to sail to Cabo Verde and to South America! We make a new time table when the sailing trip is actual.

Tenerife - Las Palmas - Cabo Verde / Mindelo
Atlantic Crossing from Mindelo to Brazil - Isla de La Noronha - Recifé / San Salvador
Recifé / San Salvador - North East coast of Brazil downwards - Rio de Janeiro
Atlantic crossing from Mindelo to Isla de La Noronha and Recifé / San Salvador in Brazil.
We try to cross directly to San Salvador if winds are favourable for us. We have also checked safe harbors north of Salvador.
Sailing gear (harnesses, life jackets etc.) for the crew is onboard. Only one Sailing bag (soft pipe bag) with personal belongings is allowed per person. We have very limited space because of food water and fuel reserves.

Brazil coast from Recife to Rio
We try to stop in Isla de La Noronha for 3 days if weather is preferable. The island with its surroundings is famous for its clean waters and excellent beaches. It is ranked the second best beach in the world.

After that we try to sail direct to Salvador Bahia. I have already some discussions about the area Bahia de Todos Os Santos.
Northbound safe harbors from San Salvador are: Recife, Recife - Olinda, Joao Pessoa and Natal. Natal is situated 160 Nm North of Recife. When approaching wach out the reefs of Baixa Grande and Cabeca Negra. Iate club of Natal. A slipway for 35' / 10 tn. Boats.
South from Recife:
Recife, we must watch out the reef in front of the harbor entrance. Three yacht clubs: Pernambuco Iate Club, Iate Club de Recife, Cabanca Iate Club.
Here you can not leave your boat, the first yacht harbor is in San Salvador. There you can leave the boat during the winter months.
+ 126 Nm Maceio, bad info about Maceio, only very shallow anchor places.
( Approx 122 Nm from Recife watch out for Sergipe Oilfields, many platforms )
+ 284 Nm Salvador Bahia de Todos Os Santos. A boat club after Unhao Banco da
+ 117 Nm Ilheus, Porto de Ilheus, Only as safe harbor, no facilities.
+ 197 Nm Caravelas / Abrolhos Archipelago, Tricky to aproach to Caravelas trough
the coral reefs. A dredged channel leading to Caravelas harbor. Small Iate club.
Here we have to apply the permits to sail in the Archipelago of Abrolhos.

of river Itajury on port side: Club Nautico de Cabo Frio.
+ 75 Nm Rio de Janeiro, many bays to anchor and many Yacht Clubs to visit. Niteroi,
Iate Club Naval Charitas to start with.

Leg 2. sailed in summer 2015. Down the Portugese coast line and from Cabo de Sao Vicente to the Macaronesian islands. The leg started 6.5.2015 in Nazaré and ended 12.6.2015 in Puerto San Miguel. The lenght was 1.087 Nm. We stopped in Lagos, Porto Santo, Madeira, La Palma and Tenerife.

Today 24.3.2015 more than 30 knots of wind and quite big Swell from the Atlantic Ocean. Low pressure has been over a week around Gibraltar. W´ll see in four weeks time. Portugese people say that the month of March is the month of the winds from all the directions.
29.3.2015 It´s getting better, temperature is raising. Still some gusts around Cabo de St. Vicente.
