Funchal
Joyfull sailing to Madeira. Funchal a busy town on the south coast of Madeira. A truly green island with different vegetation on every hight level. Clever hydro (levadas) channels coming down the slopes. A little rain but still humidity from the mountains come down every day. Delicious Madeira bananas are grown on the South West corner of the island. A smart cooperative selling system gives work to thousands of Madeira inhabitants.
The island is positive with glad and active inhabitants.

Good - Wet - Fast sailing to Porto Santo
We enjoyed much of the downwind sailing from Cabo de St. Vicente lighthouse to Porto Santo.
First two days the Atlantic waves were quite steep, short and angry but then gradually became normal Ocean waves with long up and downhill riding.
We broke one halyard and the autopilot fitting bent useless the second night. A big wave came from the aft corner and filled the cockpit once but otherwise nice sailing. We steered the night with hand and repaired the tiller next day. I had forgotten to tighten one electric cable through hull fitting and got my wardrobe soaked with salt water.
The engine heat warning light lit up once and we repaired the salt water pump once. We were not able to fish because of the good speed. The rod spend like 90 degrees with only the bate. So the 30 kg tuna is still waiting there!

Leaving from Lagos to Porto Santo
Lagos Marina and the Band MT 80
Lagos + 26, sunshine and mild weather plus nice old town, market place. The Marina is big and with all services. A bit expensive but over all experience is great!
The restaurant street in front of the Marina can offer you all you need for a gentlemen cruise. Our own chef was released of the duty.
We had a farewell party with the greatest rock band that can be described. All favorites of Dire Sraits and Deep Purple were heard. Great solo guitar playing, coolest base player, drums hammered hard with a big beat and last but not least the cute singer that gathered the band together with skill.

Porto Santo
Porto Santo 21.5.2015
Sun is shining after a five days period of dark clouds and strong winds.
Today we are sitting with Pertti in harbour café and "connecting" with fotos music etc.
Computer Grandfathers!
We had a great farewell party in Lagos Marina because a well known portugese Rock band was playing in the weekend we were leaving for Madeira. (Porto Santo)
Sailing towards the evening sun was a pleasant experience for two northern sailors. First the wind was impossible when rounding Cabo de St Vicente. After the crossing of the shipping lines the wind came and it was from behind as predicted. Good sidewind sailing with speeds exeeding 8 knots the whole following day. The second night the wind force incrased to something over 30 knots. We reefed the genoa and tried to reef the main when the halyard holding the boom snapped so I decided to take the sail down completely. With the two of us in the crew it is very dangerous to reef or take the sail down without having any supporting line. The main had no big affect of the speed. The speed remained more than 6,5 knots.
Three days and 20 hours from Lagos to Porto Santo, not bad for 480 Nm sailing. With difficulties with the main. Although the wind helped us and pushed S/y Naneux fast forwards.
We will write more about the rest of the sailing to Porto Santo later, we have to hurry up to the shops!
And of course more story and pics of the great band. we really enjoyed amogst the others in Lagos Marina atmosphere.
Some pics!
