Engine mounting in Lauersoog

Cylinder top to Volvo service

We have removed the cylinder top and it is now in service at Volvo shop. We got help of a mechanician.

 The new top came in few days, not new but the copper tubes were replaced in all cylinders. Kati tried to make breakfast to us in the hazzle.
Good bread and hot coffee for the mec also!

Official report:
We had a small leak in the first injector in our Volvo engine. As an old businessman who is making  the decisions fast and effectively. I said to mr. Harms , we change all of them.
My Sailor Mate and mr. Harms looked each other and  realised that we would not only touch the defect one but all of them.  Explanation: That means problems occur when we mount the top again. We have to plan the top.
So tools in our hands and work, HEAVY work. An hour later we had half of the engine dismounted. Ha haa who is going to mount it unless our trusted engine mechanician. We got valuable help from our old friend and harbourmaster, mr. Slagman in Lauwersoog. Many thanks to them.

We dock the boat in Nazaré

Today we hoist the boat up at the dock here. The winter is com
ing and the weather is turning to more unstable. The daylight is shorter than night hours. Sailing with the fishnets along the black night is not a pleasure. We´ll have some 4 days to Cabo de San Vicente. We come back around X-mas time and see how the weather is, latest in the beginning of march we start towards the Madeira and Canaries.
I said to myself that we are not sailing near the Nazare coast because of the huge ocean swell that is prominent here under the winter months. But, but here we are. Nice people at the boatyard recommendet by a yacht name DOM in one Baltic harbour. Also some other sailors recommended this harbour if you are going to make some service.

I remember once in the River Rhine. I said to my friend that The Rhine is huge and dangerous so we don´t sail in the night time. The first night we were eating a good onion soup in the French side of the huge river Rhein.
Here also the swell is big but as soon as you get out of the coast to the Atlantic ocean i´ts a normal wave.
The Atlantic has a deep tongue just here and the cabo at the lighthouse breaks the waters to huge brakers.

Hieno vuoristo taustalla ja armoton aaltojen jylinä rantaa vasten kaikuu todella voimakkaana. n. 4 m swelli Atlannilla. Tuosta styyrpuurista aallonmurtajien välistä ajetaan sisään.

25 - 27.9.2014 Biscay , Wo ,oops my  daugter has not left the boat in Brest and is stil sailing with me.
My new crewmember is also sailing with me to at least to Lisboa. Maybe to Lagos around Cabo de Saint Vincent.
We had a beautiful sail across the Bay of Biscay. Downwind all the way, E to NE . One day motoring. In the evening we got the sails up at last. Next day beautiful and fast sailing to Cabo de Finisterre. After the sunset the wind started to blow more than 30 knots and the swell around Cabo de Finisterre made the sailing a bit too sporty. So, we shortened the sails to minimum and sailed 10 more nautical miles.We made a sad decision to find a way to La Coruna, because the night was on hand and still 100 miles to go to Bayona.
The last bit was a tough sailngl to La Coruna. We were pointing as high up the wind as possible. and had a wery wet 10 miles ride to La Coruna. Sailing to the big harbour of La Coruna in the morgning 08.00.
3 days and 2 hours, the Biscay.

This was the highlight of the trip a mall 7 m whale (globyc phale)

We are still in Brest

We are still on the same pier.  Next week new winds are blowing. I´m getting a french crew members and we are heading for La Coruna or direct to Bayona. My daughter is going back to Finland to find about  the artist life in the archipelago.
Interesting boats are gathering here to sail with various sailing contests. Here is one of the newest constroctions.

Here some specialities from the past time, a totally refurbished Flyer. Yes it is true. She is sailing to Alicante to take part in Volvo Ocean race. Starting the 6.th of the next month.
